A High Court sitting in Ilesa, Osun State, has directed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to conduct local government elections across the state on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
The ruling was issued on Friday, February 21, 2025, following a lawsuit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the political parties contesting in the election.
In its judgment, the court emphasized that vacancies exist in the 30 local government areas of Osun State, citing a previous ruling by the Federal High Court. This decision reinforces the need for immediate elections to fill the leadership positions at the local government level.
