The House of Representatives Committee on Constitutional Amendment has rejected all 31 proposals for state creation, citing non-compliance with constitutional requirements.
Some of the proposed states include Ibadan, Ijebu, Savannah, and Etiti, among others.
Speaking on Friday at a retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Committee, stated that while the proposals reflected the aspirations of various regions, none met the criteria outlined in Section 8 of the 1999 Constitution, which governs state creation.

This decision is expected to spark further discussions on constitutional reforms and the feasibility of creating new states in Nigeria.
