The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has announced that, effective March 2025, corps members will receive a new monthly allowance of ₦77,000. This increase aligns with the Federal Government's recent adjustment of the national minimum wage to ₦70,000.
During an interactive session with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja, General Nafiu emphasized the administration's commitment to the welfare of corps members. He assured them that the NYSC is diligent in its financial processes, stating, "With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of seventy-seven thousand naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid."
This development follows the Federal Government's enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which raised the national minimum wage to ₦70,000. Consequently, the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission approved the increment of corps members’ monthly allowances from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.
Corps members have expressed appreciation for this increase, acknowledging the NYSC leadership's dedication to their well-being. The adjustment is expected to enhance the financial stability of corps members during their service year.
The NYSC management reiterates its commitment to supporting corps members and ensuring their welfare remains a top priority. This allowance increment reflects the administration's recognition of the vital role corps members play in national development and unity.
