The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has taken a dramatic turn as a group of angry parents stormed the office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to protest what they described as suspiciously low scores for their children. This development has sparked fresh debate about the credibility and transparency of the examination body.
In viral videos making rounds online, several parents were captured voicing their frustrations and questioning the integrity of the marking process. Many of them claimed their children, who had prepared rigorously for the exams, received scores that were far below what they expected.
“We watched them study day and night. There’s no way these scores reflect their efforts,” one of the mothers said during the protest.
Parents are demanding that JAMB revisit the scoring process, with some calling for a remark or the release of detailed result analytics to verify the legitimacy of the scores. Their grievances include possible technical errors, discrepancies in score computation, and the lack of proper feedback channels.
So far, JAMB has not issued any official response regarding the protests, leaving parents and candidates in a state of anxiety. Education stakeholders have also joined the conversation, calling on the examination body to ensure transparency and fairness in its processes.
As the protests continue to gain momentum, many are urging the government and relevant authorities to intervene and address the growing distrust surrounding one of Nigeria’s most important academic assessments.
